About me
Alondra Valeria Galvan (she/her) was born in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of three, she was introduced to what she would later call her passion and safe haven, dance. She moved to Tampa, Florida at a young age and began training recreationally at a local dance studio. Her training included a versatile agenda of genres including tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, contemporary, and modern. While moving around Florida, she continued to foster her relationship with movement and music. She danced in various dance studios and continuously searched for an outlet for creative expression. When she returned to Tampa, she danced competitively at Song and Dance Inc. under the direction of Darcy Mcpheron and Amanda Samons. At Song and Dance Inc., Alondra's career in teaching dance was brought to fruition when she began as a dance assistant for modern and jazz courses for children. After a couple of years of assisting, she was able to cover her own courses in modern dance for primary students and adults. She's been teaching dance ever since, having over nine years of experience with many students from all walks of life.
Her experience in a competitive dance studio runs far and beyond instruction, she assisted and was rehearsal director for multiple competitive teams. She ensured that the artistic vision was realized during rehearsal, guiding the performers, and maintaining the overall organization and flow of the rehearsal process. She also choreographed for the end-of-year performance and continued support over the summer dance intensives. During the summer intensives, Alondra shared various workshops on strength and conditioning, improvisation techniques, and choreography.
Later on, she continued her passion for dance in academia. She began her studies at the University of South Florida, where she obtained a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts (BFA) with a concentration in modern dance in 2021. While studying she had the greatest pleasure of working with renowned choreographers including John Parks, Bliss Kohlmyer, Andrew Carroll, Michael Foley, Andee Scott, Merry Lynn Morris, Jeanne Travers, Paula Nuñez, and Osmani Montano. During her progressive courses, she had the honour of being the rehearsal assistant for Claudia Lavista, a well-known Mexican choreographer.
While at USF, she attended the Dance in Paris Semester Program in the spring of 2020. This semester-long program was devoted to studying dance techniques, choreography, dance history, world dance forms, and the French language with European and other non-Western approaches, processes, and faculty. This core faculty included Kévin Quinaou, Wanjiru Kamuyu, Julien Desplantez, Anna Chirescu, Michelle Jacobi, and Aurélia Lefauchaux. While COVID cut her time short abroad her desire for dance took her to London after completing her course in Florida.
Alondra moved to London in 2021, her journey began by obtaining a Master’s in Fine Arts in Choreography at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance. She is expected to graduate in December of 2023. In her studies, she decided to research the artistic practice of perspective through action while embodying a cultural heritage, specific to this project Mexican culture. The extended project performance can be seen on the "choreography" page of this website, with the piece titled "Finding the (Vibe)rations."
As a choreographer, Alondra’s artistic focus is based on individuality, integrity, and intuition. She works with the elements of musicality, improvisation, and imagery to create artistic choices and movement. She is a dance artist who specializes in a contemporary fusion of rhythmic embodiment with modern dance forms. Her movement is based on but not limited to Límon, Horton, Dunham, and Cunningham techniques with stylization from the rhythmic emphasis of tap dance and jazz through the lens of Robert Moses. She is developing work based on the embodiment of rhythm and heritage through a cultural perspective. She mostly works with contemporary and modern styles of dance but infuses elements from hip-hop and jazz.
Alondra uses her work as an advocacy for the human condition. She usually researches and presents ideas based on the celebration of feminism, queer theory, and philosophy rooted in heritage. As an lgbtq+ member, Alondra hopes to find more spaces where non-binary and female-presenting identities can flourish and triumph. She is interested in creating a safe space for all people and finding the inclusivity and positive emotional release of dance.
